Why Why Why - SharePoint 2010 Upgrade conversion strips JavaScripts in CEWP

Umm, this is really annoying.  And even MS consultants have no answer except, copy and paste content again into 2010 site from a SandBoxed 2007 after migration.  Ideally should also place all code in a separate text file and referenced it in CEWP.

Well we have so many scripts running everywhere and the upgrade mechanism just strips it all out and also all the rich text, it is annoying as some sites have to be slowly rebuilt with the code that has been fortunately archived in an UAT Server's sandbox.

One way to prepare better is to isolate the script in 2007 and place them all into the .txt file reference in the CEWP beforehand.  How annoying since so much script been placed into the HTML source window already.

I see many other professionals feeling the same pain, see here.  Summarises the situation.

Another big way to get Konged

SharePoint 2010 css to suppress everything except Web Part Zone

Isn't it amazing how many professionals post really useful tips on SharePoint.  Here is another one.

During our SharePoint 2010 conversion, some css that I had done previously no longer worked.  As documented here for SP 2007

http://kongedagain.blogspot.hk/2013/11/creating-copy-of-your-master-page-that.html

We had to create a page where there was nothing show except the webpart zones.  i.e the page was to be planted as a dialog window with no menu or ribbon at the top.

I found that if an aspx page is created in SharePoint Designer 2010.

Add the following

<style type="text/css">
/* Code to Hide Ribbon Completely */

#s4-ribbonrow { display: none;}

/* Code to Hide Ribbon Partially */

.ms-cui-tt { visibility:hidden; }

/* Code to Hide Site Action */

#siteactiontd {  DISPLAY: none }

/* Code to Hide Ribbon */

.ms-cui-tt { visibility:hidden; }

/* Code to Hide Site Action */

#siteactiontd {  DISPLAY: none }

body #s4-leftpanel { display: none; }
.s4-ca { margin-left: 0px; }
</style>

Must thank these 2 professionals for coming up with the css suppression for SP 2010's ribbon

http://junaidsk.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/how-to-hide-sharepoint-2010-ribbon-site-action-menu-without-modifying-the-master-page/

and here for hiding the left menu

http://chanakyajayabalan.wordpress.com/2013/03/06/hide-sharepoint-left-navigation-menu-using-css/

I thought I will summarise in a post.

Disable Sort Context Menu in SharePoint 2007

Have you ever tried to disabled or hide the sort menu in a list in SharePoint 2007.  And found it difficult to locate the css that governs the menu's display.  Shown below.

Well, it turns out there is a way to simply disable the code that draws the menu.  StackOverflow has documented it http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17608969/disable-ecb-menu-in-spgridview

But its another CEWP trick.

Simply add this code.

 <script type="text/javascript">
      $(document).ready(function() {
        $('.ms-unselectedtitle').removeAttr("onclick");
        $('.ms-unselectedtitle').removeAttr("onmouseover");
        $('.ms-menuimagecell').remove();
      });
 </script>

And remember to also plant the JQuery reference else nothing happens.

And voila, its gone when you mouse over the menu.

Its Windows or Not Windows

Umm seems like things just go from back to worst.  You really need to start asking why buy such a useless PC when for a few dollars more you can have a Mac.  umm, wished I had taken my own advice rather than get suckered.  Take a look at this.  Seems like I was not the only one getting this annoying hardware related problem.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/buzzing-sound-when-using-explorer/d96c6a83-aa4f-446f-a867-0bf603c40001

Apparently, its been nothing but trouble, first problematic adapter making an un-usual sound needing replacement then a rather noisy fan and then this.

The problem only goes away if you disable the sound in Device Manager.

It appears it is affecting quite a lot of machines as the manufacturer has agreed to replace the machine but on a replacement, it still has the issue.

Add this on top of the issue everyone has a with using Win 8, you got to ask is this the beginning of the end.  Somehow, I feel they have designed Win 8 for desktops the wrong way round.  Instead of having the desktop as the mothership i.e a more advance faster Win 7 for more powerful hardware couple with SSD support.  They have a forced a tablet/phone interface onto a desktop / laptop.  It would have been quite nice had the apps area been just a window on the desktop.  And then there was a easy way to simply transfer files from the apps window into the desktop, thats all what most folks wanted really.  Instead I think they spent a lot of time engineering something that was the wrong way round from a desktop / laptop's perspective.

Win 8 on Nokia Phones actually very good.  And Win 8 as it is also quite nice on Surface Pro like tablets.  But they shoulf have listened to their main desktop/ laptop  users and adapted a slightly different presentation interface for it.

Anyways, I wonder how long we have to wait till a more desktop friendly Android appears, multi-minimise-able windows running on a HP Slate 21?  May be soon.  And who is to bet that no one soon put a third party add on that allows it to login to Windows AD Domains and can interpret and communicate with the Windows AD Server?  Well MS would make sure who ever tries fails to protect their enterprise market.

Updated.  It appears Asus the manufacturer has a general hardware issue with these PCs making bizz noises as even after a board replacement by them and testing another new one from the series.  The noise is still there.  They have no answer.  Basically poor QC of hardware.  Very poor coming from them considering their pedigree in motherboards and now Nexus 7 etc.

The sounds are somewhat influenced by the control settings on the graphics card on board.  And not the monitor's brightness.  The sound's frequencies can somewhat be altered by adjusting the brightness, contrast and HUE.  It display then influences the sound hardware on board and makes these noises.

Olympic Marseilles away Adidas Techfit shirt

A forgotten bargain laying in cfs.  All the hallmarks of a decent techfit shirt.
Colourful hoop design.
Shirt is as well made as other techfits.

Italy Puma shirt

Not usually into one of the big team's shirt but always had a soft spot for some Italy Azzuri shirts.  Some of the designs always represented a trend towards something.  I loved the 82 shirt they had.  If I can turn back time, I would have bought a few of them when I use to see them lying around at the local sports shop.
Anyway, this is one of my favourite remake of the classic Azzuri styles.  It somewhat feels like a remake of 82.  Even though Puma did put out a celebratory special edition back in 12 for its 30th anniversary.  I find the faux collar really smart.
Crest is well embroidered.
Fantastic sleeves and great fit.  Especially like the cuffs with the flag colours.  Shirt is very slim fit and really looks great.  It is just the supporters edition rather than the pro fit or ACTV players version but still it's well shaped.  Material is good quality.

Nigeria Adidas shirt

Adidas finally made a worthy naija shirt.  We have had some boring ones for ages.  Then finally this but then it's the last one and they could not build on it
Shirt is excellent in design.  Nice v neck and trim.
Naija crest so cool.  Super eagles taking off.
Sleeve is great design.
Material is smooth from adidas as usual.  Great shirt to wear and look at.  And I guess the end of an era with adidas no longer at the helm.  Only complaint is as usual with adidas their shirts are very long and wide sleeve.  You got to be tall and massive to look good wearing it.

Jamaica Kappa shirt

I have been keen to get hold of a Romai Reggae Boys shirt.  I like this manufacturer's design and really keen to try out.  But this was one of the previous shirts that was done by Kappa.
It's a basic design.
Not much rasmataz on the shirt and crest is cleanly embroidered but the stitching could be improved.
Sleeve is quite long and has a narrow fit.  We Kappa feature.  Back to some of the classic Italy shirts that they put out.
The shirt has a snug fit about it.  Material is light and fine.  Quite a Kappa feature.  They use a different weight of polyester.  It is nice to wear and feels soft and stretchy.

Newcastle United Score Draw Retro Away shirt

Score Draw are a British brand that specialises in retro shirts.  I use to love this Newcastle away shirt back in 83-84 I think.  It has a lasting impression on me.  The original shirt was by umbro, they can't put their logo on it.
The classic Newcastle Brown Ale blue star sponsor back then and the previous crest nufc magpies.
The sleeve is very good fit.  Shirt is wider than expected around 20.5 inch pit to pit.  But it's easy to alter with its straight seams.
Such a class design.  There has never been a better Newcastle away shirt.  The material is OK.  It is not like the original,  It's heavier imo.
