Apparently, its been nothing but trouble, first problematic adapter making an un-usual sound needing replacement then a rather noisy fan and then this.
The problem only goes away if you disable the sound in Device Manager.
It appears it is affecting quite a lot of machines as the manufacturer has agreed to replace the machine but on a replacement, it still has the issue.
Add this on top of the issue everyone has a with using Win 8, you got to ask is this the beginning of the end. Somehow, I feel they have designed Win 8 for desktops the wrong way round. Instead of having the desktop as the mothership i.e a more advance faster Win 7 for more powerful hardware couple with SSD support. They have a forced a tablet/phone interface onto a desktop / laptop. It would have been quite nice had the apps area been just a window on the desktop. And then there was a easy way to simply transfer files from the apps window into the desktop, thats all what most folks wanted really. Instead I think they spent a lot of time engineering something that was the wrong way round from a desktop / laptop's perspective.
Win 8 on Nokia Phones actually very good. And Win 8 as it is also quite nice on Surface Pro like tablets. But they shoulf have listened to their main desktop/ laptop users and adapted a slightly different presentation interface for it.
Anyways, I wonder how long we have to wait till a more desktop friendly Android appears, multi-minimise-able windows running on a HP Slate 21? May be soon. And who is to bet that no one soon put a third party add on that allows it to login to Windows AD Domains and can interpret and communicate with the Windows AD Server? Well MS would make sure who ever tries fails to protect their enterprise market.
Updated. It appears Asus the manufacturer has a general hardware issue with these PCs making bizz noises as even after a board replacement by them and testing another new one from the series. The noise is still there. They have no answer. Basically poor QC of hardware. Very poor coming from them considering their pedigree in motherboards and now Nexus 7 etc.
The sounds are somewhat influenced by the control settings on the graphics card on board. And not the monitor's brightness. The sound's frequencies can somewhat be altered by adjusting the brightness, contrast and HUE. It display then influences the sound hardware on board and makes these noises.
